Importance of Play and Activity in Learning: In Wednesday (Oct 18th) Age newspaper there was an interesting article on the importance of play and activity in improving learning for students. Finland has a high level of student achievement compared to other countries. There are a number of reasons why this occurs; one of the factors is play (unstructured and frequent play) with a variety of friends. The play is spaced throughout their day of learning and at times is as short as 10 minutes. As educators, we have always known that healthy body, healthy mind and have put into our practice breaks between learning tasks. I mention the importance of play in learning because sometimes we forget and we focus on other things in our busy lives. I am sure you can find this article online if you have any further interest in reading it.
